When you floated the hydrometer in the mash before you added the yeast what did the hydrometer say?
I like to see 1.060 to 1.075- depending on my mash ( I do all grain mostly)

Fermentation is done when the hydrometer has not changed for 2-3 days in a row.
I like to see 1.010 or below- most of mine will ferment down to 1.000

If you want a quick way to calculate your potential alcohol, I like this online calculator. The page design is a little dated, but it’s one of the few that I’ve seen that corrects for temperature, which is important in getting your numbers right.

There are probably half a dozen or more Android and iOS apps out there that will allow you to do the same. Knowledge of where your mash starts and ends is invaluable to knowing if you’re doing things right.
