ElectricHomeDistilleryParticipant
I always leave the hotbreak an and hops and other junk (trub) behind.
Use an autosiphon if you have one and siphon the good stuff out of the pot leaving all the other stuff behind.if you don’t have an auto-siphon it won’t be the end of the world to get some in the fermenter.
ElectricHomeDistilleryParticipantMarduk- That is not ours– it looks like that is using an STC100 for the controller. I was going to say if you were using our controller you can just set a % of power— once you have it up you could set it to 60% or whatever to keep the correct amount of power going to the element. It sounds like you found a good work-a-round with the controller you have though.
In terms of the proof- in terms of a packed column still running at a decent speed your proofs look pretty spot on. If you are looking to increase the proof-
either setup a thumper or modify your column – use a sightglass and pack it full of Raschig Rings–or better yet use the sight glass with copper platesElectricHomeDistilleryParticipantMarduk- are you using one of our Electric Home Distillery controllers?
are you running 15 gallons of wash?
ElectricHomeDistilleryParticipantSo if I am reading this correct-
The starting Brix was 13 which is around 1.0526 in terms of specific gravity
the current specific gravity is 1.046if those numbers are correct it is saying that the mash did not fermented much.
does it look like this?
ElectricHomeDistilleryParticipantCheckout this article if you have not

ElectricHomeDistilleryParticipantI add it prior if I do use it- I just use it to adjust the PH of the mash- you should be fine without it.
What brand agave nectar did you end up using?
Please report back with your results- as this is on my list as well.
ElectricHomeDistilleryParticipantI have been thinking about doing a batch- I have not made this yet… but this would be interesting to make. I am not sure how much like tequila it would taste– but I bet you will get a very good tequila/mexican style spirit.
If I were to make it I would do the following:
Ingredients:
120 ounces of blue agave nectar
4.0 gallons of water
1/2 teaspoon of lemon juice
2 packets of bread yeastStarting gravity should be somewhere around 1.070
I’d ferment around 80 –
This looks like a decent deal.
http://goo.gl/9Hsej8I’d do a stripping run and a spirit run and then age it for a bit- I bet it will taste darn fine.
If you do make something like this please report back- as I’ve been interested in this myself.
