    Although, I use electric…..I bring it up fast then crank it back. And by bringing it up fast I mean to about 115-120. Then I sit back relax with something to pass the time until its go time.

    You cannot avoid it…..Methanol

    The bad stuff is the first to come out of the still during production….

    So, depending on the size of the mash the amount you have to pull off and toss out because its the bad stuff will vary…

    The easy way….Temp……

    First cut ….first drops until roughly 180ish degrees F (toss it all out, its the bad stuff)

    Also keep in mind depending on the size of mash it will not be a quick process. You will not distill 6 gallons in a couple hours. That being said let the heat go….it will take a while to heat up larger mashes.
